Joint credit card accounts:
If you are going through a divorce or separation and have joint credit card accounts,
you should continue to make payments so your credit record is not damaged. If you
owe a balance on a joint account, both you and your spouse are responsible for the account.
If you plan on a divorce, consider paying off the balance and closing the joint accounts. You could ask the creditor to convert the joint accounts to individual accounts. Creditors do not have to change joint accounts to individual accounts. As long as the account
is joint, even after you divorce, or even if the divorce states that one of you will be responsible for paying the account, you are both responsible for the joint account unless it is closed.
